Four Ball Wear Test
The Four Ball Wear Test is the industry's standard test method used to determine the wear protection properties of a lubricant.
Three metal balls are clamped together in a triangular patter and placed in a bath of the test lubricant. With load, speed and temperature kept constant, a fourth ball sits atop the other balls and is rotated and forced into them for one hour.
The lower three balls are then inspected for wear scars at the point of contact. The diameter of the wear scars are then measured and recorded.
Lubricant wear protection properties are measured by comparing the average wear scars on the three fixed balls.
The smaller the average wear scar, the better the wear protection properties provided by the lubricant.
Dynacycle Oil has one of the best "Wear Ball Test" numbers in the industry with a 0.31, which beats the top 5 selling motorcycle oil's on the market today. Dynacycle Oil works great in ALL 4-stroke air and water cooled engines, especially V-Twin and XL engines.
